Finding Nemo Sequel Entitled Finding Dory Officially Announced

Well the rumors were true. A sequel to the much beloved Pixar film, Finding Nemo has been officially announced as Finding Dory.

A lot of people are probably full of rage right now from hearing this, others may not. People might be saying that Pixar is dead since they are making all of these sequels and have run out of ideas. However, with 5 upcoming original Pixar films, it's safe to say that this is not the reason for all of the sequels. The real reason is because these were going to originally be made at Circle 7 Animation. For those of you who do not know what that is, here is a little history lesson for you.

In 2004, before Disney bought Pixar, the CEO in Disney at that point, Michael Eisner wanted to make sequels to Pixar films, without Pixar. Disney created an animation division called Circle 7 Animation to make sequels to Pixar films on their own. At this point, Pixar decided to go on with making movies without Disney to distribute them. The last Pixar film to be distributed by Disney was going to be Cars. Circle 7 Animation ended up closing down. However, at that point, 3 Pixar sequels were in development at Circle 7 with scripts. Those films were as follows:

Toy Story 3: Originally, Toy Story 3 was going to be about Buzz Lightyear being recalled. Pixar took over this project and the film became entirely different.

Monsters, Inc. 2: Mike and Sulley decide to visit Boo after many years and realize that Boo has moved, so Mike and Sulley venture through the human world to try and find her. Pixar later took over this project and turned it into Monsters University.

Finding Nemo 2: There are no details about what Finding Nemo 2 was originally going to be about. All I know is that Pixar is taking over the project and is making Finding Dory.

After Circle 7 Animation closed down and Disney bought Pixar, Pixar had to go through with making sequels to these movies since they were so close to release.

Ever since I heard about the rumors about Finding Nemo 2, I had a feeling that it will happen for this particular reason. I also had a feeling that if the rumors were true, it would be Finding Dory. It turned out I was right. However, it is not going to be about Dory getting lost. Instead, it will be about Dory being reunited with her family. The title Finding Dory suggests Dory's search to find herself spiritually from within. Thank goodness they are not making Finding Dory a rehash of Finding Nemo and instead chose to go a different route.

Anyways, I am very excited for Finding Dory. The story sounds original and is not just a rehash of Finding Nemo and sounds like it has incredible potential. It also sounds like it will have a lot of heart, which could perhaps make it yet another Pixar tearjerker. However, for you skeptics out there, it will comfort you to know that after Finding Dory, they will not be making anymore sequels for a long time (perhaps forever... Or at least until Disney and Pixar get into another fight) since it will be the last of the films that Pixar has to go through with because of the Circle 7 incident.

I would not be so worried about Finding Dory. After all, Pixar took over Toy Story 3 and that ended up being a masterpiece. Also, even though Monsters University hasn't come out yet, that looks like it will be a masterpiece as well.

Finding Dory is scheduled for release on November 25th, 2015 (making it the previously untitled Pixar film that was going to be released on that day), but that is most likely going to change since Pixar tries to release more than one film each year but ends up not going through with it. However, I remember Pixar saying that if they make sequels to films, it will be the 2nd film released on that year so they might just end up sticking with this release date.

What are your thoughts on Finding Dory? Are you fine with it, or are you skeptical?

  1. I can't wait to read the FULL synposis of the film as well as seeing its first poster(NOT its logo formed as a poster---that doesn't count) and its first (short teaser) trialer!!!
